  • Mateo is the young prince of the Kingdom of the Sun, and is the only heir to the throne. He is often silent around others, but breaks out of his shell once talking to those he's familiar with, or when talking about a topic he's passionate about. He's almost always seen with his personal knight, The Knight of Radiant Sun, whom he just calls Radiant. Mateo doesn't take his royal duties very seriously, but does take his mage training seriously, showing a clear passion for the arcane arts.

    Story

Mateo was born into the royal family of the Kingdom of the Sun, and would soon show magical promise at a young age. By the age 3, he was able to cast basic elemental spells without the use of a wand, and as a result, his parents would soon have him studying the art of the arcane. Mateo would spend most of his formative years engrossed in nothing but his studies and training, with the occasional royal events and meetings mixed in. While both of his parents wanted the best for him, Mateo had a mixed relationship with his father, as he was the one to always push Mateo to take his studies as seriously as possible. Mateo would end up becoming deeply close with his mother, as she wished for her son to enjoy his youth as much as he could.

Unfortunately, tradgey would strike. When he was only 12, Mateo's mother would fall ill. The disease was unknown, and deadly. She died within a year. Her death deeply affected Mateo, and he would slowly mend his relationship with his father over the years in an attempt to regain what he had lost.

Growing older, his father realized that his son would soon be of much importance, and would need more protection than what the castle walls could provide. As a result, Mateo was given a personal knight for his protection, the newly appointed Royal Knight of the Radiant Sun.

    Relationships

    King Solis

Despite having a rocky relationship with his father when he was younger, Mateo is much closer to him now. Mateo looks up to his father, seeing a man who loves him deeply, and who loves his kingdom. He prefers his dad when he isn't acting as a king, though. The death of Mateo's mother is still a sore spot of conversation between the two.

    Queen Martiza

No relationship is perfect, but Mateo would argue that what he had with his mother was just about. A nurturing mother and the kinder of his two parents, Queen Martiza was, and still is, the person Mateo loves most in the world. Her death left deep emotional scars on Mateo. Unable to move on from his grief, almost all of his prayers ask for a short meeting with his mother's spirit, which is granted on occasion.

    Knight of Radiant Sun

How close can you really be with a guy that never speaks? Mateo isn't sure what to think of the ever-silent, ever-masked Knight. He can't tell if his kindness is present because of his duties or because he's just a nice perrson. Mateo has slowly learned to read the Knight through his subtle movements and quirks, but so much of him is still a mystery to be solved. Maybe they'll warm up to each other soon, at least he's good at his job?
